Deliver us from evil
I spend an inordinate amount of my time shredding the bad arguments of religiously unreasonable people. Years of doing this has helped acclimate me to the horror of dogma and the way we can kick compassion to the curb for the arbitrary whims of a pernicious and mythological god.
However, some things still disgust me so much that they defy any attempt to find the right phrase or wording to convey how stupid, how callously inhuman they are. This is one of those times. Here's the title:And here's the text. Read ahead if you'd like to ruin your day and what faith you had left in mankind.Brazil girl, alleged rape victim, aborts twins
The procedure on the 9-year-old girl draws complaints from Catholic church
RIO DE JANEIRO - A 9-year-old girl who was carrying twins, allegedly after being raped by her stepfather, underwent an abortion Wednesday despite complaints from Brazil's Roman Catholic church.Monsters.Police said the stepfather has been jailed since last week.
Abortion is illegal in Brazil, but judges can make exceptions if the mother's life is in danger or the fetus has no chance of survival.
Fatima Maia, director of the public university hospital where the abortion was performed, said the 15-week-old pregnancy posed a serious risk to the 80-pound girl.
"She is very small. Her uterus doesn't have the ability to hold one, let alone two children," Maia told the Jornal do Brasil newspaper.
But Marcio Miranda, a lawyer for the Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife in northeastern Brazil, said the girl should have carried the twins to term and had a cesarean section.
"It's the law of God: Do not kill. We consider this murder," Miranda said in comments reported by O Globo.
Calls to Miranda were not immediately returned.
Brazil is home to more Catholics than any other nation.
What god could exist that would not be ashamed of Christianity? What god could possibly allow these faith-drunk madmen to speak for him? Irrationality is dangerous, and there is no more productive engine of irrationality, and no more impenetrable edifice of outlandish stupidity, than religion.

Man. Suddenly, I'm in a somber mood. This is just...words are not enough.
You're right. That is truly disgusting. I was trying to see the other point of view, and this time... nothing. Pathetic pieces of...
This story doesn't ruin my faith in God, just makes me angry, and incredibly sad
@ShamelesslyRed - Would anything? Is there any atrocity or absurdity that could not be compatible with your faith in god?
It is belief that this type of madness is god's will that allows people to ignore basic human empathy.
JT
@Zerowing21 - I agree with you for the most part. Faith in God has nothing to do with the absurdity of people, and how imbecilic some can be.I don't blame God for the lack of compassion in people, or the dogma that lacks the same
@ShamelesslyRed - Fine, then what could shake your faith in god? Any atrocity? Any absurdity?
JT
@Zerowing21 - Define what shaking my faith means to you
@ShamelesslyRed - What would it take to convince you that there is not a god who has anything to do with mankind?
Because if your belief is a self-fulfilling prophesy, of course this wouldn't rattle your faith in god.
JT
@ShamelesslyRed - You have got to be fucking kidding me. People were trying to have this NINE YEAR OLD GIRL have children she concieved because was raped by her irresponsible stepfather because of the belief in a higher power. You understand? BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE IN GOD.
If your supposed god would allow for such monstrous behavior...perhaps it's high time you find a new one.
@Zerowing21 - Nothing. It would be the equivalent of trying to make me believe that my great great great grandmother didn't exist....or more pointedly, like my kids do not exist. Even though you do not understand, I know Christ personally--like I know my kids. Except my relationship with Him is a closer one. Closer than any I've ever had. Actually, this is the testimony of all true Christians around the world.
@LArtsy - no--you misunderstood my reply--it wa sth opposite of what you think
That is disgusting. At her age, she shouldn't ever be having sex, nevermind having children. I feel terrible for her. She couldn't carry those children, nor should she. Murder? The pregnancy would kill the child. What's more important?
Holy shit these guys are messed up.
@ShamelesslyRed - ...
There is a hole in the wall next to my desk, right about head-level, due to people like you.
Why is a personal relationship with god not a testament to all the true Muslims, Jains, Hindus, Zoroastrians, Theistic Buddhists, Satanists, etc, etc, etc ad nauseum? You know, all the faiths that are incompatible with yours. In order to believe in Christianity, which asserts that all these other faiths are repositories of error at best (error that will send you straight to hell for non-belief), you must believe that the followers of every other religion throughout history and on the planet today (everybody who is not in the 33% Christian group) is either lying, deluded, or crazy about speaking to god. And I'd agree. And I think it's patently clear that you belong in the same boat.
Surely you must realize this in regards to believers of every other faith, but not yourself. Your inability to change your mind is not a testament to the truth of your beliefs - anybody can be dogmatic and close-minded to outside influence. It's a testament to the fact that your belief is a self-fulfilling prophesy, nothing more. And if that's the best that can be said about your faith...how proud can you really be of it?
I'm glad you agree with me that this is horrible, but your reasoning is awful. It is part of the problem.
JT
@ShamelesslyRed - *Ahem* You did, in fact say:
"Faith in God has nothing to do with the absurdity of people"
Well, then, I think it can safely be assumed that you are off you rocker in that the the Catholic Church (who promotes your 'god') was appalled by the little girls' actions of saving her life after being taken advantage of. They are criticizing this child because of the belief in god. And that, my friend, is completely absurd.
@LArtsy - I don't agree with Catholicism, nor do I agree with your stance that everyone in the catholic community felt this way. Insult me if you wish though. I will not apologize for my faith in Christ
@Zerowing21 - Lol..You totally took my words out of context, which is fine. I never once said my faith alone to the exclusion of all other people. That was your assumption. Do you always attack people of faith, simply because they have it?
I'm glad you agree with me that this is horrible, but your reasoning is awful. It is part of the problem.
What part of my reasoning is "awful" ?
@ShamelesslyRed - I certainly criticize people for bad reasoning. You cannot honestly sit here and tell me that all other faiths are correct along with your own, can you?
I think we're inching closer to the no true Scotsman fallacy, but we shall see...
JT
@ShamelesslyRed - This is officially the last time I reply to this pile of stupid.
I never said that everyone in the Catholic Community felt that way about the girls' position. You did. I said the Church was upset about it, as the article stated. But thanks for putting words in my mouth and attempting to argue with me.
I also never asked to to apologize for your *throws up in mouth* 'faith' in a 'god'. I will ask you, however, to question it. To put it to the test logically and rationally. The Church was willing to spurn a small child because she needed an abortion to save her life. An abortion she needed because her stepfather raped her. They did this because they are carrying out 'god's' will. The same god you follow, even if under a separate label.
@ShamelesslyRed - What part of your reasoning is awful?
The self-fulfilling prophesy in god, the mechanism that props up any number of ludicrous propositions you do not accept as true on that reasoning.
Calling that self-fulfilling prophesy a testament to true Christians. That is just ridiculous. Oh, and saying that faith in god has nothing to do with foolish actions when it clearly does.
JT
@ShamelesslyRed - Even though you do not understand, I know Christ personally--like I know my kids. Except my relationship with Him is a closer one.
In all the years you've spoken to God, has he ever spoken back?
@huginn - Yeah actually, He has
@huginn - Red's response can't be true, because the Flying Spaghetti Monster has spoken to me, so he must be the one true god and she must be lying, deluded, or crazy.
Hooray anecdotal evidence that ignores similar patterns in other groups.
JT
@ShamelesslyRed - Does he speak with a Jewish accent?
Sad. Just sad.
