After five years of defending your freedom from religious zealots who think your life is worth less than your ability to live without fear of their faith, my brother has concluded his service to Uncle Sam and arrived home early Saturday morning. Sadly, I've been my usual busy bee-type self and haven't been able to make it home to see him yet.
However, after
my talk today I'll be driving some more to go give him a welcome home hug. I've cleared out Monday and Tuesday in my schedule (which, for me, is quite an accomplishment) to spend with him, so don't expect to hear much from me. Despite having no heart and no morals on account of not believing that a Cananite jew rose from the dead, I have missed my brother dearly every day he was gone. It will be a relief to see him again.
(I will miss
dementor girl for three days...things are going stupidly well there...

)
In the meantime, you guys should take a minute to go
sign the FFRF's letter to president Obama asking him to honor the judge's decision regarding the unconstitutionality of the national day of prayer. Keep faith and the government separate - it keeps me from having religion forced upon me, or even annoyed by it being suggested I should pray, and it keeps the evil pinko, commie atheists from passing legislation to take away your right to believe as you choose (because we're totally trying to do that).

I'm glad your brother is home, and safe from the war.

Even as a Christian (who actually tries to adhere to the Bible), I'd be forced to agree about the inappropriateness of a government-driven National Day of Prayer, even if the official idea is to encourage people of ALL religions to pray. The First Amendment begins, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..." However, privately-organized national observances like "See You at the Pole" are just fine. America's founders repeatedly cited "God" and "divine Providence" in their personal writings and even in the Declaration of Independence, but I think they were wise to legislatively disentangle religion from civil law. Even the Bible does not endorse the enforcement of Christianity at a governmental level. I signed the FFRF petition.
Tim is the crap, man. I can't wait to hang out with the whole family sometime soon. Hurry up, finals, and get in the past. Stupid future-present-past time continuum. *sigh*
