Big News
About forty minutes ago I was offered the position of Campus Organizer and High School Specialist with the Secular Student Alliance. I immediately accepted, as this was the job at the top of my list. So on Jan. 2 I will be moving to Columbus, Ohio to get paid almost twice what I've ever been paid as a service industry employee to do essentially what I already do for free. I will also get two weeks paid vacation and health insurance, and they're going to work with me on my speaking schedule. These things strike me as too good to be true luxuries. I literally can't imagine such a tremendous jump in standard of living (up to middle class!) And I get it for just doing what I've been doing for the last five years. I'm beside myself. This also poses a major problem though: I'm a die-hard Arkansas Razorback fan and Columbus is the home of Ohio State University, who will be playing my beloved Razorbacks in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 4 - two days after I've moved. That means I will have to traipse to a local sports bar rocking my Razorback apparel to cheer against the Buckeyes. There may be blood.
Assuming I live through that, this will hopefully be where I wind up for the rest of my life (unless the SSA moves). This is a spot I in which I never thought I would be. I wish I were well enough to tie one on. As it stands, I'm going to take the rest of the day off, take my girlfriend to dinner, and just relax before I start packing.
If you are a high school student reading this and you would like to form a secularism group at your school, you may contact me in my official capacity starting Jan. 3, 2011. It will be my job to help you.

Starting at the beginning of the year, this blog will now transition into a more personal blog, with all of my political and religious work going exclusively to Atheism Resource.
This all seems so surreal. It seems like it should be happening to somebody else. I literally can't believe it's happening to me.
Until tomorrow, everyone.

Congratulations!!!
Congratulation my Friend you have more than earned the position...
And to all those who doubt JT's abilities and knowledge of the materials, saying he has no expertise...
Eat your fucking hats, or crow if you prefer, you pigs...
I am in a semi-foul mood today
Congrats dude. Someone of your caliber will be a real benefit to the SSA.
Now I'm going to have to follow Atheism Resource so's I can get my dosage of outspoken-atheist JT in addition to friendly personal JT.
Wow! Congratulations.
Major congrats JT. My only question is, who's going to run Skepticon now?
Congratulations! I can only imagine how great this must feel.
You might want to watch the Sugar Bowl at home. lol
@VoijaRisa - This year's Skepticon was run by a team of very talented people, all of whom will take on a little more responsibility pre-show this coming year. I will stay on in the capacity of speaker acquisition.
Don't worry: as promised, Skepticon 4 will be bigger and better. :)
JT
Go you.
@Zerowing21 - That's good. Let me know if you never need help with anything. I help run an (anime) convention in KC with 4,000 attendees and live in StL, so I'm pretty good at remote organizing.
Congratulations and I hope it is everything you want it to be.
Congrats. I have to warn you though: Ohio sucks.
Congratulations on the job
if I wasn't so antisocial and the only atheist in my town, I'd ask you for help at my school.
congrats :)
Congratulations!!!!! How exciting!!! :D
Congrats! Into the future to teach, learn, know, think, and have some fun too.
JT, you know I can't wish you good luck on your new job.
And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. And if your hand offends you, cut it off: it is better for you to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dies not, and the fire is never quenched. Mark 9:42-44
Congrats man! I'm glad you are taking a job that fits you perfectly.
@DenseGodBot - Don't need luck, just all the evidence on my side. Pray that I fail - it'll work as much as rubbing a rabbit's foot.
JT
Congratulations, JT. I know you'll do well.
Congrats!
Way to go, JT. I look forward to seeing a book published within the decade ;)
Congratulations!
@The_Aftershock_3650 - I'm working on one right now actually. It's a collaborative effort that's going really well and will even have some chapters contributed by some big name folks.
