  • Big News

About forty minutes ago I was offered the position of Campus Organizer and High School Specialist with the Secular Student Alliance.  I immediately accepted, as this was the job at the top of my list.  So on Jan. 2 I will be moving to Columbus, Ohio to get paid almost twice what I've ever been paid as a service industry employee to do essentially what I already do for free.  I will also get two weeks paid vacation and health insurance, and they're going to work with me on my speaking schedule.  These things strike me as too good to be true luxuries.  I literally can't imagine such a tremendous jump in standard of living (up to middle class!)  And I get it for just doing what I've been doing for the last five years.  I'm beside myself.

This also poses a major problem though: I'm a die-hard Arkansas Razorback fan and Columbus is the home of Ohio State University, who will be playing my beloved Razorbacks in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 4 - two days after I've moved.  That means I will have to traipse to a local sports bar rocking my Razorback apparel to cheer against the Buckeyes.  There may be blood.

Assuming I live through that, this will hopefully be where I wind up for the rest of my life (unless the SSA moves).  This is a spot I in which I never thought I would be.  I wish I were well enough to tie one on.  As it stands, I'm going to take the rest of the day off, take my girlfriend to dinner, and just relax before I start packing.

If you are a high school student reading this and you would like to form a secularism group at your school, you may contact me in my official capacity starting Jan. 3, 2011.  It will be my job to help you.  happy

Starting at the beginning of the year, this blog will now transition into a more personal blog, with all of my political and religious work going exclusively to Atheism Resource

This all seems so surreal.  It seems like it should be happening to somebody else.  I literally can't believe it's happening to me.

    Until tomorrow, everyone.
